MUSO Information

What is MUSO?

MUSO  (Monash University Studies Online) is Monash University's primary system for delivery of teaching materials online via the internet.

Information for Staff

How do I get a MUSO site?

MUSO sites are not automatically rolled over from one semester or year to the next. Requests for all sites, whether they are new or exisitng must be completed via the electronic MUSO Site Request Form. Please complete all relevant sections in the form.

What other services are available?

The Educational Design and e-Learning group (EDeL) are available to work with you in designing your MUSO site, and ensuring that all online materials and activities are integrated with other activities (face-to-face, print etc). More information is available on the EDeL page.

Information for Students

The CALT MUSO Helpdesk provides students with support for general and technical MUSO related problems. The Helpdesk operates between 8am-10pm Monday to Friday and 1pm-5pm Saturday to Sunday. They can be contacted by telephone on (03) 9903 1268 or via the CALT MUSO Jobdesk. If the helpdesk staff do not have the solution to your problem, they can either refer you to the right person, or give you the contact information.

How do I access my subject on the MUSO site?

There are different ways to access your subject MUSO site:

  • Through the My Monash Portal. If you are enrolled in subjects that use MUSO, you should have a direct link to them from the My Units tab of the portal.
If you do not have a My Units tab, go to http://my.monash.edu.au/units. Click on the link to My MUSO.
  • By logging on to Monash University Studies Online  directly. On the Login page enter your Authcate username and password. This will take you to your Monash University Studies Online page where you will see a list of MUSO sites available to you under the Course List.

What do I need to access MUSO?

In order for all the features of MUSO to work correctly you need to ensure that:

  • Java is installed and enabled
  • you are using a compatible web browser
  • your browser is configured correctly

Compatible versions of Java and web browsers can be downloaded from http://www.monash.edu.au/muso/support/students/downloadables-student.html

Using other software with MUSO

MUSO frequently opens Announcements, Discussion messages, Quizzes etc in a separate browser window. Some Internet security software (commonly known as Pop-Up blockers) stops this so that it may appear that Vista is not working. It is recommended that such software is disabled while running MUSO.
